Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 8 February 2024: Election Commissioner (EC) Md Alamgir said that the upcoming Upazila Parishad elections will be better than the 12th National Assembly elections. He said this while talking to the media at Agaonargawe election building on Wednesday.

Alamgir said, "We will do the upazila election better than the way we did the national parliament election. Because, the national election has to be held in 300 constituencies in one day. We have to put effort together in 300 places. We will do the upazila election in at least four stages. Each stage will vote in 100 or so upazilas. It will be. In that case, our effort will be more."

He said, "We hope that the upazila elections will be very fair. History says that local elections are more competitive. Many people participate at the local level. Because of this, an automatic balance is created in the polling field. We think that if we make efforts, the voting will also be fair. Regarding the amendment of the law. This election commissioner said, there are some inconsistencies and ambiguities in the code of conduct for the upazila elections. The election commission is reviewing them to correct them."

In response to the question whether BNP will come or not in the upazila elections, he said, "We cannot say anything about this. Because the election schedule has not been announced yet. Since the schedule has not been announced, and they (BNP) have not said whether they will come or not, so Nothing can be said ahead of time."

In response to the question whether the upazila elections are going to be participatory as there is no vote on party symbols, EC Alamgir said, "Those who are into political analysis can say the matter well. We hope that the eligible candidates who have public support will participate in the elections. We will then be fair and beautiful. And will try to create a peaceful election environment."
