US anti-corruption officials hold meeting with ACC secretary

Dhaka, August 7: Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain met with Richard Nephew, US State Department's global anti-corruption coordinator.

On Sunday 6th August at 3:40 pm, a delegation of three members led by Richard Nephew went to the head office of the ACC. Later, the delegation met in the office of the ACC secretary.

Richard Nephew has been traveling around the world since taking over as global anti-corruption coordinator last month. Bangladesh is also included in his tour as part of his tour of the South Asia region. In this three-day visit, apart from the Anti-Corruption Commission, the delegation is scheduled to meet with senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, government and private organizations that work on anti-corruption.

On July 5, Richard Nephew was appointed as the US State Department's Global Anti-Corruption Coordinator. He is directly connected to the US Secretary of State. Before joining the State Department, Richard Nephew served as a senior fellow at Columbia University's Center for Global Energy Policy.

Later, the ACC secretary told reporters that their arrival has nothing to do with the election. There was no such discussion. They have taken us as part of their activities. This is their regular activity.

It is known that there is an exchange of views on the existing challenges in the prevention and control of corruption and the activities taken to solve various problems. In this case, the existing strategies for combating corruption globally as well as what new strategies should be adopted to prevent money laundering are discussed in detail. The State Department of the United States of America has expressed its deep sincerity to play an effective role in combating corruption by increasing mutual cooperation with the Bangladesh Anti-Corruption Commission. Besides, the Anti-Corruption Commission of Bangladesh also expressed sincere support for this mutual cooperation.

In addition to Richard Nephew, the US delegation also included anti-corruption analyst Dylan Aikens and US Embassy official Mr. Max Martin.

The ACC secretary said that the US delegation has taken the idea of how the ACC works. Richard Nephew's responsibility is to share information on corruption. Coordinating such work. Now they have got idea about ACC.
