US Delegation | Bangladesh Visit Uzra Zeya tweets after meeting PM Hasina
Dhaka, July 14: Uzra Jeya, Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights of the visiting US State Department, held a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He tweeted about it after the meeting.
Uzra Zeya held a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban on Thursday. Later he tweeted at 1:11 pm Bangladesh time. In a tweet, he wrote, "Had productive discussions with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 50 years of US-Bangladesh relations. US appreciates Bangladesh's generosity towards Rohingya refugees. US looks forward to free and fair elections to build a prosperous democratic future for the people of Bangladesh."
The Under Secretary of the US Department of State arrived in Dhaka from New Delhi on Tuesday evening as part of his visit to some South Asian countries. Human rights, labor rights, elections and the Rohingya crisis are on the agenda of his visit, among other bilateral issues.
Analysts are considering Zeya's visit as important amid the heat in the political arena over national elections at the end of the year or early next year.
The Under Secretary of the US State Department met Law Minister Anisul Haque and Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at the Secretariat on Thursday. He will have a formal meeting with the Bangladesh delegation led by Foreign Secretary Masood Bin Momen at the State Guest House Padma.
