Vaccines coming from India tomorrow afternoon: Health Secretary

Dhaka, January 20: The 2 million dose coronavirus vaccine sent as a gift from the Government of India will reach Bangladesh tomorrow at noon. Abdul Mannan, secretary of the health department, said that 5 million doses of the first consignment of vaccines purchased by Bangladesh from the Serum Institute of India will reach the country on January 25.

He told a press conference at the Prime Minister's Office on Wednesday that 20 lakh doses of the gift vaccine would arrive in Bangladesh on a special Air India flight at 1.30 pm on Thursday. From there the vaccine will be kept in the storage of EPI in Tejgaon.

Bangladesh is officially buying 30 million doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine produced at the Serum Institute of India. And the vaccine that the Indian government is sending as a gift is also the Oxford vaccine produced at the Serum Institute.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque said on Tuesday that the vaccine for India's gift is likely to arrive on Wednesday. When the vaccine arrives in the country, he will go to the airport himself and receive it. However, he also hinted that the vaccine may be delayed by one day.

Detailed information on tick management was presented at a press conference on Wednesday. In addition to the Secretary of the Department of Health Services, the Prime Minister's Office SDG Chief Coordinator Juena Aziz, ICT Department Senior Secretary NM Ziaul Alam, Director General of the Department of Health Prof. Dr. ABM Khurshid Alam was present there.

Abdul Mannan said that seven million doses will come in the first month by combining the first invoice of the purchased vaccine and the gift vaccine. They plan to vaccinate six million people in the first month at two million doses per day.
