Viqarunnisa to remain closed on Sunday to mourn deaths of 5 teacher-students in Bailey Road fire

Dhaka, March 2: Due to the death of a teacher and four ex as well as current students of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in the capital's Bailey Road fire, the educational institution has declared a holiday tomorrow (Sunday, March 3).

The following Monday, all branches will pray for the souls of the deceased and wear black badges. This information has been stated in a circular from the college expressing grief on Friday.

Those who died in the fire are Lutfun Nahar Karim (Lucky) and her daughter Jannatin Tajri (ex-student) of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College Main Prabhati (7-10th) Branch, Sadia Afrin Alisha of Class VIII Main Prabhati Branch, Fauzia Afrin Riya (ex-student) and Lamisa Faria (ex-student).

According to the notification, the Viqarunnisa family is deeply shocked and saddened by this incident. Condolences to the bereaved souls of the deceased including members of the Viqarunnisa family in the accident and deep condolences to the bereaved family. To pay respect to all those who died, all classes of the institution will be closed on Sunday for teaching, examination and other activities and on Monday all branches will pray for the souls of the dead and wear black badges.

A terrible fire broke out in the Cozy Cottage building on Bailey Road in the capital around 9:50 pm on Thursday. Instantly, the fire spread to every floor of the seven-story building. Later, Health Minister Dr. Samanta Lal Sen informed about the death of 43 people. After that, the death toll rose to 46.
