Voting in Dhaka-5 and Naogaon-6 constituencies today

Dhaka, October 17: By-elections will be held in Dhaka-5 and Naogaon-6 constituencies on Saturday (October 17).

Six candidates are contesting in Dhaka and three in Naogaon.

Candidates contesting in Dhaka-5 by-election are- Md. Kazi Monirul Islam Of Awami League, Salah Uddin Ahmed of BNP, HM Ibrahim Bhuiyan of Gono Front, Mir Abdus Sabur of Jatiya Party, Md. Anshar Rahman Sikder Of Bangladesh Congress and the National People's Party Md. Arifur Rahman (Sumon Master).

On the other hand, the candidates contesting in Naogaon-6 by-election are-  Md. Anwar Hossain (Helal) Of Awami League, BNP's Sheikh Md. Rezaul Islam and the National People's Party's Md. Khandaker Intekhab Alam.

The seats in Dhaka-5 and Naogaon-6 became vacant after the deaths of Habibur Rahman Mollah on May 6 and Israfil Alam on July 27 respectively.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) wards 48, 49, 50, 60, 61, 62, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69 and 70 (Demra and Motijheel) make up Dhaka-5 and Raninagar and Atrai upazilas make up the Naogaon-6 seats.

According to Election Commission (EC) sources, polling in Dhaka-5 constituency will be held in 864 rooms in 187 centers in 14 wards of Dhaka South City Corporation. The total number of voters here is 471,129 people.

Polling will be held in 721 polling booths of 104 polling stations in 16 unions of Naogaon-6 constituency comprising Raninagar and Atrai. The total number of voters here is 306,725 people. Of these, 153,758 are males and 152,967 are females.

Two judicial magistrates and 14 executive magistrates have been serving in the Dhaka-5 election since October 15 to maintain law and order.

The Judicial Magistrate will be in charge till October 19 and the Executive Magistrate till October 18.

At the same time, the same number of Judicial Magistrates and Executive Magistrates will be performing their duties in Naogaon-6 by-election.
