Own Correspondent, Dhaka, May 5: The water level of all major rivers in the northeastern part of the country (Sylhet region) is rising. According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), this trend of increasing water level may become more dynamic in the next 24 hours.

The Flood Forecasting and Warning Center said on Wednesday (May 4) evening that the waters of all major rivers in the northeastern part of the country were rising. It may continue for the next 24 hours.

According to the Meteorological Department's mathematical model forecast, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in the next 24 hours in the northeastern part of the country, in the eastern part of the country and in parts of the adjoining Barak Basin of India, Mizoram and Tripura. As a result, in the next 24 hours, the water level of major rivers (Surma, Kushiyara, Manu, Khowai, Gamti, Titas and Feni) in the northeast and east of the country may rise rapidly.

The expert committee set up by the Meteorological Department to provide long-term forecasts said in May that heavy rains in May could cause short-term flash floods in some parts of the north and northeast of the country.

On the other hand, the weather forecast for the next 24 hours from 6 pm on Wednesday is that there will be temporary thunderstorms with strong gusts of wind or thunderstorms in some parts of Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and a couple of places in Rangpur, Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions. There may be rain with thunder.

In the next 48 hours (2 days) a low pressure is expected to form in the Andaman Sea area, according to the weather bulletin.
