Dhaka, July 9: Two hundred and ninety-nine people were killed in 277 accidents on the country's roads and highways during the Eid-ul-Azha holiday. Another 544 people were injured. Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samiti gave this information in a press conference at Bangladesh Photojournalist Association auditorium in the city on Saturday morning.

Secretary General of the organization Md. Mozammel Haque Chowdhury said that their road accident monitoring cell prepares a report like every year. According to the report, 299 people were killed and 544 injured in 277 road accidents in 15 days from the start of the Eid trip on June 22 to the return to work after Eid on July 6.

Mozammel Haque Zaman, according to the report, although motorcycles have been at the top of accidents for the past several years, this year's observation shows that truck-pickup-covered vans are at the top of accidents this Eid due to the widespread movement of livestock vehicles and free movement in defiance of the ban on Eid trips. 93 people were killed and 193 injured in 88 truck-pickup-covered van accidents this Eid. Which is 31.76 percent of the total road accidents, 31.10 percent of the dead and 35.44 percent of the injured. Along with this, 94 people were killed and 77 people were injured in 91 motorcycle accidents. Which is 32.85 percent of total accidents, 31.43 percent of total fatalities, 14.15 percent of total injuries.

At that time, 82 drivers, 9 transport workers, 35 pedestrians, 47 women, 25 children, 17 students, 5 law enforcement personnel (1 police, 1 navy, 1 RAB, 1 BGB, 1 Army), 4 teachers, 5 activists of different political parties were killed and their identities were found.

The Secretary General of the Passenger Welfare Association also said that the accident analysis shows that 22.37 percent of the total vehicles were motorcycles, .05 percent trucks-pickup-covered vans-lorries, 17.57 percent battery-powered rickshaws-easy bikes-van-cycles, 15.75 percent buses, 10 27.27 percent Car-Micro-Jeep, 5.47 percent Nachiman-Kariman-Tractor-Laguna-Mahindra and 4.56 percent CNG autorickshaws were involved in these accidents.
