Naya Paltan clash: 432 BNP leader-activists including Rizvi in jail, 14 others on 2-day remand

Dhaka, December 9: The court granted two-day remand to 14 people in the case of the clash between BNP activists and police in front of the BNP central office in Naya Paltan. Meanwhile, the same court has ordered to send 434 activists, including Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Dhaka Metropolitan North convener Aman Ullah Aman, to jail. Later, Aman Ullah Aman and two others were released on bail.

Police produced them in court on Thursday (December 8). After that, the investigating officer of the case applied to remand them for seven days for proper investigation of the case. After the hearing, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain granted their remand. The other accused on remand are BNP co-climate secretary Mostafizur Rahman Babul, co-organising secretary Seluzzamanan Salim, Dhaka district BNP president Khandaker Abu Ashfaq, BNP leader Shahjahan, AKM Aminul Islam, Wakil Ahmed, Sajeeb Bhuiyan, Sarwar Hossain Sheikh, Saidul Iqbal Mahmud, Mizanur Rahman, Al-Amin, Saiful, Shubo Faraji and Mahmud Hasan Roni.

Meanwhile, the same court has ordered to send 432 BNP leaders and workers to jail, including the senior joint secretary general of BNP Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and convenor of Dhaka Metropolitan North.

The other accused in this case are Special Assistant to BNP Chairperson Shimul Biswas, Southern Convener Abdus Salam, Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon, Former Organizing Secretary Fazlul Haque Milan, Co-Organizing Secretary Selimuzzaman and Central Publicity Secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury.

BNP leaders and activists clashed with the police in front of the BNP central office in Nayapaltan on Wednesday afternoon. One person was shot and died. Many were injured. The police said that they found rice, water, cash and explosives in the BNP office.

During the raid, BNP senior joint secretary-general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, campaign secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP convenor Amanullah Aman, special assistant to the chairperson Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas were arrested by the police.

The police filed a case as a plaintiff in the Paltan Model Police Station, citing the names of 473 people in the incident. In the case, 1,500 to 2,000 BNP leaders and activists have been named as defendants, including 473 identified names.
