5850 metres of Padma Bridge visible now

Dhaka, November 27: Six days after the installation of the 38th span, the 39th span was installed on the Padma Bridge. On Friday (November 27) at around 12:30 pm, the span was placed on pillars 10 and 11. Through this, 5,850 meters of the bridge became visible.

Padma Bridge Executive Engineer (Main Bridge) Dewan. Abdur Quader said the span named '2-D' was taken to the pillar by a floating crane from Mawar Kumarbhog Construction Yard around 9 am.

Later at 12:20 pm the span was placed on pillars 10 and 11.

He said the 39th span was installed six days after the 38th span was installed. Now there are only two spans left.

There are plans to install 40th span ‘2-E’ on pillars 11 and 12 and 41st span ‘2-F’ on pillars 12 and 13 in December.

Meanwhile, other works are going on besides installing span. Of these, 1,848 railway and 1,238 roadway slabs have been laid on the bridge.

Construction of the Padma Bridge began in December 2014. The Padma Bridge became visible on September 30, 2017 with the installation of the first span on poles 37 and 38.

Then 39 spans were placed one by one. It has made 5,850 meters of the bridge. The 6.15 km-long Padma bridge will be constructed by placing 41 spans of 150 m length on 42 pillars.

The main shape of the 6.15 km long multipurpose bridge will be two-storey. The structure of the bridge is being constructed with concrete and steel. The Padma Bridge will be opened in 2021 after its completion.
