99.32% households getting electricity

Dhaka, April 13: In addition to improving the quality of life, it has been said about the advancement of socio-economic conditions - According to the data obtained from the household income and expenditure survey in 2022, the percentage of households currently benefiting from electricity is 99.32 percent, which was 75.92 percent and 55.26 percent in 2016 and 2010. Currently the electrification rate in the country is 100 percent. Besides, the literacy rate has increased to 74 percent.

The poverty rate in the country is now 18.7 percent. The extreme poverty rate is 5.6 percent. According to the statistics of 2016, the poor population in the country was 24.3 percent. In that year, the poor population in the country was 12.9 percent.

Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) released this information on Wednesday. Planning Minister MA Mannan was present as the chief guest at the publication of the results of the 'Household Income Expenditure Survey 2022' held at the Statistics Bhawan in Agargaon of the capital.

According to the report, there are 20.5 percent poor in rural areas and 14.7 percent in urban areas. The 2022 survey shows that the Gini coefficient value for income is 0.499, which was 0.482 in 2016 and 0.458 in 2010. It shows that inequality has increased. On the other hand, the value of Gini coefficient for consumption expenditure in 2022 is 0.334 which was 0.324 in 2016 and 0.321 in 2010.

Inclusive participation of the Khana (family) in the institutional financial system is increasing, BBS said. In this case, it is said that at present, at least one member of the Khana (family) has opened a bank account in the previous 12 months of the survey, which is almost double compared to 2016 (7.5 percent) and 2010 (7.4 percent). In this, the inclusive participation of Khana in the institutional financial system is increasing.
