A dream come true: PM inaugurates Padma Multipurpose Bridge

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, June 25: Bangladesh's long wait is over. A new horizon of communication is unveiled. This is like the victory of dreams and courage of Bengalis. With that, the door of hundreds of thousands of dreams opened. The suffering of long-term communication will end. At the same time trade and commerce will expand. Industries will be set up in the neglected south and south-west. The curse of unemployment will disappear.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Padma Bridge on Saturday (June 25) at 11:30 am. She then left for the toll plaza at 11:40 am. There she took part in the munajat by unveiling the inaugural plaque and mural-1 at the end of Mawa near the toll plaza. This opened the way for Dhaka to connect with the south and south-west.

Not only the banks of Padma, but also Naria upazila of Shariatpur has been witnessing an impact of the bridge. A piece of land in Shubhgram, Baripara, Bismillahnagar, Baishakhipara, Dhalipara and Banshtala of Naria Municipality is being sold for Tk 15 lakh. Various types of fast food shops have been set up here. Small stores and shopping malls have been built there.

Abdur Rahman, a former MP from Faridpur and presidium member of the Awami League, said the inauguration of the Padma Bridge exposed all domestic and foreign conspiracies. The challenge that Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina had has been overcome. We are celebrating this victory. This bridge has opened the door to the possibilities of Bangladesh. It will give a vital momentum to the economy of Bangladesh.

Kajal Krishna Dey, general secretary of Madaripur district Awami League, told Jago News that Madaripur will be economically dynamic as it is a Padma Bridge. Besides, industrialization will take place in Sadar, Shibchar Upazila and adjoining district Shariatpur. There will be national and international infrastructure in this area around the Padma Bridge. This will lead to socio-economic development in Madaripur.

Economists say Bangladesh's growth will be close to 2 percent due to the Padma Bridge. Dr. Mustafizur Rahman, special fellow of research institute the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), said the savings made by the Padma Bridge in our investment, distribution and marketing will play a positive role in the economy. In the meantime, various types of signboards of investments can be seen along the Padma corridor. The employment generated by these investments will contribute significantly to our economy.

Economist and President of Bangladesh Economic Association Prof. Dr. Abul Barakat said that the Padma Bridge will contribute 9.52 percent to the GDP in 2027. At that time, the size of the country's GDP will be Tk 63 lakh crore. Of this, Tk 6 lakh crore will be because of the south.
