Dhaka, August 18: Considering the situation of coronavirus (Covid-19) infection, the government has banned all kinds of processions and marches on the occasion of Ashura. However, all the necessary religious rituals can be observed in accordance with proper hygiene and social distance. This information has been given in the press release of the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Tuesday (August 17). Holy Ashura will be celebrated in the country next Friday (August 20).

The Shia community takes out the traditional Tazia procession on the day of Ashura (10 Muharram) from the Hosseini Dalan in Old Dhaka. According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the restrictions imposed on religious institutions of all religions will remain in force in the current context of the country following the emergency notification issued by the Ministry of Religious Affairs on August 6, considering the situation of coronavirus infection.

Shiites observe Ashura mainly on the occasion of the martyrdom of Imam Husain, the grandson of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). However, in the history of Islam, the holy Ashura (10 Muharram) has been highlighted by the liberation of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) and his followers from Pharaoh. On the occasion of Ashura, devout Muslims fast on the day of Ashura and one day before or after it.
