Dhaka, April 4: All the 300 constituencies will be voted on by ballot in the upcoming national elections. Election Commission (EC) Secretary Jahangir Alam said this at the end of the 17th meeting of the commission at the conference hall of the election building of Agargaon in the capital on Monday (April 3).

He told the reporters that in the upcoming parliamentary elections, voting will be done on ballot papers and transparent ballot boxes in all 300 seats.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal presided over the meeting. In response to the questions of the journalists, the EC Secretary further said that the use of EVMs in a maximum of 150 seats was mentioned in the action plan of the EC. But about 1260 crore rupees are required for EVM repair. That money is requested from the Ministry of Finance. But the Finance Ministry has expressed disapproval. Since the Election Commission does not have the funds to repair all the EVMEs. Besides, the matter is time-consuming.

Meanwhile, the election schedule of five more city corporations was announced. These city corporations are Gazipur, Rajshahi, Barisal, Sylhet and Khulna. Gazipur City Corporation elections will be held on May 25, Rajshahi and Sylhet on June 21, Khulna and Barisal on June 12.

Earlier, the EC officials said that the countdown to the Gazipur City Corporation elections has started from March 11. That is, the EC has the obligation to vote this city within the next 180 days from March 11. The last vote in Gazipur City Corporation was held on June 27, 2018.
