Bangladesh Army chief inspects development works along Padma river

Dhaka, April 17, 2022: Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, SBP, OSP, NDU, PSC, PhD inspected the progress of implementation of left bank conservation project of Padma river from Majhirchar in Dohar upazila of Dhaka district to Moksedpur via Narisha Bazar.

During the visit, Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F. Rahman, MP and senior Army officials along with local dignitaries were present. The Chief of Army Staff expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project and gave necessary directions.

Under the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the left bank protection project of Padma river from Majhirchar in Dohar upazila of Dhaka district to Moksedpur via Narisha Bazar upstream of Padma Bridge is being implemented by 25 Engineer Construction Battalion under 24 Engineer Construction Brigade of Bangladesh Army.

In order to achieve the status of a developed country, the present government has given priority to industrialization as per the vision-2041. Following this, the government has adopted a plan for industrialization by building an economic zone in Dohar, Dhaka. However, the threat in the way of this huge potential is the breakdown of the madness Padma.

When the project was approved by ECNEC on September 10, 2016, construction work of 25 Engineer Construction Battalion started in April 2019. The main works of the project are two: construction of 8 km defense dam along the left bank of Padma river at Dohar and dredging of 12.20 km.

In a short span of time, the members of 25 Engineer Construction Battalion have worked tirelessly to save the Dohar area from the erosion of the Padma through geo-bag dumping and placing in an area of ​​6 km.

At the same time 3.48 km of work of 6 km permanent defense dam has already been completed and the remaining 2.52 km of permanent defense work is in progress.
The implementation of the project is expected to pave the way for economic development in Dohar and play an important role in the socio-economic development of the people of the region.
