Busiest metro rail station opened

Dhaka, March 1: Another station of the metrorail was opened in the capital on Wednesday (March 1). The busiest Mirpur-10 station was opened as the fifth station in terms of consecutive inauguration. Through this, the journey of five stations of Metrorail began.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the metro rail on December 28 last year. Uttara North and Agargaon stations were opened on the first day. On the day of the inauguration, the Prime Minister traveled by metro rail from Uttara Uttar station to Agargaon. The next day, the Metrorail was opened to the public from 29 December.

Then two more stations were opened one by one. Among them, Pallabi station was opened on January 25 and Uttara Center station on February 18. This time Mirpur-10 station was opened as the fifth station.

There are total nine stations en route from Uttara North to Agargaon. Of these, five are operational, leaving four now. The four stations awaiting inauguration include Uttara Dakshin, Mirpur-11, Kazipara and Sheorapara stations.

The Metrorail, which was launched commercially on December 29 last year, was running non-stop for four hours from 8 am to 12 noon every day. Later this schedule was delayed by 30 minutes. According to the new schedule, the Metrorail is running from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm from last January 25. However, the gates of the metro rail are being opened from 8 am to facilitate the collection of tickets for passengers. Last passengers will be able to collect destination tickets from the opened Metrorail stations till 12 noon.

Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) MAN Siddique told Jago News that the remaining four stations will also be opened in phases. Through this, all nine stations of Diabari-Agargaon section will be operational. He said that the Mirpur-10 station is in a highly populated area. As a result, manpower has been kept ready as per the plan keeping in mind the additional pressure of the passengers.
