Chapainawabganj: BSF took away the body of a youth after he was shot dead at the border

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 3 April 2024: A youth named Saiful Islam (30) was killed by BSF firing while fetching cows at Rokanpur border of Gomstapur Upazila of Chapainawabganj. The incident took place on the border of Radhanagar Union of the upazila on Tuesday (April 2) night.

Local sources said that one more person was injured. Saiful Islam son of Hasan Ali alias Jhodu Ghosh of Nagarpara of Radhanagar Union of Gomstapur Upazila who was killed in BSF firing.

Locals said that on Tuesday night, Saiful along with some of his classmates went to bring cows to India through the Rokanpur border. At that time, Saiful died on the spot when the patrolling members of Itaghata BOP of 159 BSF Battalion of India opened fire. The body was later taken away by the Indian Border Guard. Meanwhile, another youth named Raju Islam (25) was injured by BSF firing. When he was shot, he was hiding and receiving treatment at another place.

Motiur Rahman, Chairman of Radhanagar Union Parishad of Gomstapur Upazila confirmed the matter. He said that a person named Saiful was killed in firing by BSF while fetching cows. His body is now in India. Those who went with Saiful gave such information. Naibab Subedar Azad Rahman, Rokanpur BOP Commander of Naogaon 16 BGB, said that we have also received news that a Bangladeshi has been killed at the border. Further inquiries are being made in this regard.
