Dhaka, September 6: Classes at educational institutions will resume on September 12 in primary, secondary and higher secondary level educational institutions.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting held in the conference room of the Cabinet Division on Sunday (September 5) under the chairmanship of the Education Minister. At the end of the meeting, the Education Minister informed the media about the decision.

She said coronavirus infections in the country are declining rapidly. The number of infections has dropped by 70 percent since July. Classroom teaching will start from September 12 in primary, secondary and higher secondary level educational institutions. There will be four to five hours of classes on the first day. The number of these classes will gradually increase. Everyone, including students and teachers, has to wear a mask while in the classroom.

Dr. Dipu Moni said that in the beginning of 2021, those who are SSC and HSC candidates will have to come to school every day. Also fifth graders will come to class every day.

She said that in order to enter the school, the students have to be admitted in a row. The school will not have any assembly at present. However, physical activity or sports will continue, so that they can remain healthy both physically and mentally. Each institution has to fill the checklist and send it to the Ministry of Education. If there is a risk of infection by random sampling, the centre may stop operation.

The Education Minister said that with the help of mass media and social media, precautionary measures should be taken during the classes in the educational institutions. Parents will have to ensure not to send children to school in case they or family member/s show/s signs of infection, and help others from getting infected.

She also said that teachers and other staff members will have to measure the body temperature of students every day based as part of the the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and will have to check if anyone has any symptoms.

Teachers will have to ensure that students wear mask everyday. Accordingly, parents will send their children with mask on. No one will be allowed to enter the class without a mask.

Dr. Dipu Moni said she would meet with VCs this week to discuss the opening of universities before October.
