Dhaka, December 30: Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said the fare of Dhaka Metrorail is not high compared to other countries.

He said, now if you get into a rickshaw, you have to pay a minimum fare of Tk 20. So the fare of Dhaka Metro is not high.

He said this during an exchange of views with journalists at the Ministry's meeting room at the Secretariat on Thursday (December 29) at noon.

Obaidul Quader asked if the metro rail fare in Dhaka has increased or not, and said that our metro rail is very advanced in terms of technology. Fearing that the metro rail may cause noise pollution, students have also formed a human chain in Dhaka University. The Prime Minister has spoken to the teachers, I have also spoken. Told them, there will be no noise in our metro rail. Due to advanced technology there will be no noise, students will not have any problem.

He said, Dhaka Metrorail and metrorail of other countries are not the same. Fare is not higher than in Malaysia and Thailand. Time will also be saved. Uttara can be reached in 38 minutes from Motijheel. In the condition of Dhaka, this distance will be covered in just 38 minutes.

The Minister of Roads reiterated the hope of starting the metro rail up to Motijheel during the term of this government next year.

He said, "Metrorail has come recently to Dhaka. People have to get used to it. There is no opportunity to see them with the naked eye. All experienced people are sitting there. This is not Kolkata metro, it is technologically very modern."
