Ferry Accident Driver killed as truck falls into river from ferry in Paturia
Dhaka, March 1: The driver lost control of the truck and fell into the river at Paturia Ghat in Manikganj. The deceased was identified as Masud Rana, 32, son of Shamsul Islam of Chanda village under Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira.
The accident took place at Ferry Terminal 3 in Paturia around 11pm on Sunday, said Salam Mia, manager (commerce) of BIWTC's Aricha office.
He said the driver lost control while the truck was boarding the ferry. The truck fell into the river Padma from the ferry and drowned. The driver Masood got stuck inside the truck. At around 12 pm, members of the fire service came and recovered the body from inside the truck. Although there was an assistant driver in the truck, he jumped into the river and returned to shore.
Paturia Naval Police Outpost SI Md Liton Mia said the body was kept at the outpost. Necessary legal steps will be taken in this regard.
