EC monitoring Rajshahi-Sylhet city polls on CC cameras

Dhaka, June 21: The Election Commission (EC) is monitoring the overall situation of voting in Rajshahi and Sylhet City Corporation elections through CC cameras. EC monitoring has started from Agargaon election building in the capital since the start of polling in two cities on Wednesday (June 21) at 8 am.

Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) voting has started in 2,500 polling booths in two cities with about eight lakh voters. Voting will continue till 4 pm.

Since this morning, Election Commissioner Ahsan Habib Khan, Rasheda Sultana and Md. Alamgir are directly monitoring the polling of Rajshahi and Sylhet City Corporation elections from the CCTV monitoring control room installed in the basement of the election building.

According to EC sources, polling is going on through 3,204 EVMs in Sylhet City and 2,500 EVMs in Rajshahi. The Commission is monitoring Sylhet City with 1,747 CC cameras and Rajshahi City with 1,463 CC cameras.

Four lakh 47 thousand 753 voters will have the opportunity to exercise their voting rights in 1,367 polling booths of 190 polling stations in Sylhet city. Among them 2 lakh 54 thousand 236 male voters, 2 lakh 33 thousand 387 female voters and six third gender voters.

Eight candidates are contesting for the post of mayor, 294 candidates for 42 general ward councilor posts and 86 candidates for 12 reserved ward councillor posts.

The mayoral candidates are - Bangladesh Awami League's Md. Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury, Jatiya Party's Md. Nazrul Islam, Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Mahmudul Hasan, Zaker Party's Md. Zarihul Alam, independent candidates Md. Abdul Hanif, Md. Chalah Uddin Rimon, Md. Shah Jahan Miah and Mushtaq Ahmed Rauf Mostafa.

On the other hand, 3 lakh 51 thousand 982 voters will get the opportunity to exercise their voting rights in 1,153 polling booths of 155 polling stations in Rajshahi City. Among them, 1 lakh 71 thousand 167 are male voters. There are 1 lakh 80 thousand 809 women voters and six third gender voters. All the centers of Rajshahi are sensitive, there are CC cameras.

Four candidates are contesting for the post of mayor, 111 candidates for 30 general ward councilor posts and 46 candidates for 10 reserved ward councilor posts.

The mayoral candidates are AHM Khairuzzaman Liton of Awami League, Md. Saiful Islam Swapan of Jatiya Party, Md. Murshid Alam of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and Md. Latif Anwar of Zaker Party.
