EC seeks information on jail terms for violation of code of conduct in parliamentary elections

Dhaka, Jan 17: The Election Commission (EC) has directed to send the information of any candidate or person imprisoned by the magistrates while enforcing the code of conduct in the 12th National Parliament elections.

The EC has asked all the returning officers and senior district and district election officers on duty in the parliamentary elections to send the information in this regard.

Khorshed Alam, Deputy Secretary of Bangladesh Election Commission Secretariat, sent a letter in this regard on Tuesday. It is said that if any candidate or person has been sentenced to imprisonment under Rule 18 (1) of the "Political Parties and Candidates Conduct Rules in Parliamentary Elections, 2008" by the Executive Magistrate responsible for enforcement of the Code of Conduct in the 12th National Assembly Elections, the information thereof shall be sent to the Manpower by January 17. Instructions are requested to be sent to the internal site of Management-1 branch.
