Dhaka, June 30: A total of more than 94 lakh 43 thousand animals have been sold for sacrifice on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha. Out of this, 43 lakh 61 thousand cows and buffaloes and 50 lakh 81 thousand goats, sheep and other animals were sold. According to the data of the Department of Livestock, the total sale of sacrificial animals this year is more than Tk 60,000 crore.

Public Relations Officer of Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Md. Iftekhar Hossain gave this information to Jago News on Thursday, June 29 night.

He said, the total number of animals sacrificed cannot be determined by the total number of cattle sold. Because the total number of slaughtered cattle this year will be determined by adding the sold animals to the domestic cattle that have been sacrificed.

It is known that the total number of sacrificial animal stalls across the country including the two city corporations of Dhaka was 3 thousand 249. 43 lakh 61 thousand cows and buffaloes were sold for more than Tk 47 thousand crore and 50 lakh 81 thousand goats and sheep and other animals were sold for more than Tk 13 thousand crore.

According to the information obtained from the control room of the Department of Livestock, this year, the sale of sacrificial animals through the online platform was undertaken in all the eight divisions of the country. A total of 4 lakh 63 thousand 96 animals were sold online.

Compared to last year, the number of sacrificial animals has increased across the country. Last year, the number of animals reared for sacrifice across the country was about 1 crore 18 lakh 97 thousand 500.

This time, according to the field level data, 45 lakh 47 thousand cows-buffaloes, 73 lakh 65 thousand goats-sheep, 4 thousand 765 other species (camel, dumba) and a total of 1 crore 19 lakh 16 thousand 765 cattle were ready for sacrifice.

Cattle from outside the country were not allowed to come through the border from one month before the Eid al-Qorbani until the end of the Qorbani. A letter was sent from the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock to the Department of Public Security to give necessary instructions to the BGB to prevent the entry of cattle.

As the country has enough cattle, besides banning imports, the government strictly controls the illegal entry of cattle from across the border. However, this time more than 10 lakh cows remained unsold. In the end, many sold cows at a loss. Still, the traders have taken back a large number of protected cows.
