Dhaka, August 24: EC Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath said that Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) will be used in maximum 150 constituencies in the upcoming National Assembly elections. He announced this decision after the meeting on Tuesday (August 23).

EC Additional Secretary said, the commission has decided to use EVM in the next 15th parliamentary elections. The Election Commission has decided to use EVMs after taking into account the opinions of all the parties.

In response to a question on how many seats EVMs can be used specifically, he said that EVMs can be used in maximum 150 and minimum one seat.

In reply to the question, Kumar Debnath said that many political parties have made adverse comments on the use of EVMs, including dialogues, and the EC has taken such a decision ignoring them. Such a decision has been taken after considering everything.

When asked about the capacity of EC to use EVM at present, he said that 70 to 75 seats have the capacity to use EVM. If EVMs are to be used in 150 seats then new machines may need to be purchased.
