Ferry services stopped after nor'wester lashes parts of country on Sunday evening

Dhaka, April 5: After intense heat, there were rains with strong gusty winds or thunderstorms in parts of the country on Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, a launch sank with more than 50 passengers in Narayanganj due to the nor'wester.

The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has temporarily suspended all launches on the country's inland waterways after 6 pm.

Pabna, Rajshahi, Gaibandha, Bogra and Mymensingh areas have been hit by strong winds. It rained in Dhaka and adjoining areas in the evening with intermittent cold and gusty winds.

According to the meteorological office, gusts of wind blew at 74 kmph in Dhaka, 64 kmph in Agargaon, 48 kmph in Bogra and 62 kmph in Rajshahi. There is a possibility of storm or rain from this month. There is a possibility of one or two thunderstorms this month.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours from 6pm on Sunday said that the low pressure has weakened and is manifesting in the form of clear light pressure on the North Andaman Sea and nearby Myanmar coast. It is a depression located in and around the North Andaman Sea and extends north and northeast.

According to the forecast, rain or thundershowers are likely in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Chittagong, Khulna and Barisal divisions. There may be hail somewhere as well.

On the other hand, moderate heat wave is prevailing over Sitakunda and Rangamati areas and mild heat wave is likely to continue over Dhaka, Tangail, Sandwip, Feni, Rajshahi, Pabna, Khulna, Kushtia areas and may continue.

Day and night temperatures across the country may remain almost unchanged.

The weather forecast for the next 48 hours says that the weather may change slightly during this time. Besides, there may be a tendency of rain / thunderstorm in the next five days.
