Freight train carries stones over Padma Bridge

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 16 September 2023: A seven-carriage trial special train loaded with stones has crossed Padma Bridge from Bhanga in Faridpur to Mawa end of Munshiganj. The train left Bhanga for Mawa at 7.30 am on Saturday 16th September. From there, at around 9:30, the intention to break again came out. This is the first speed trial of a freight train crossing the Padma Bridge.

According to Bhanga railway station sources, the freight trial train left for Mawa railway station, 28 km from Bhanga, around 7:30 am. It reaches Mawa station around 9:00 AM. At that time the speed of the train was 60 km per hour. Then it left Mawa for Bhanga at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour and arrived in Bhanga around 10:30 in the morning. This seven-coach freight train was broken down at the station. It used to bring stones for the Padma Bridge railway project.

Md Shahjahan, station master of Bhanga railway station, said that the speed of stone-laden freight train was checked twice by crossing the Padma bridge from this morning. The officials and employees related to the project were present in the train.

Incidentally, at a press briefing organized by Bangladesh Railway and Bangladesh Army after inspecting the Bhanga railway junction at around 12:30 pm on September 7, Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said that the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Dhaka-Bhanga railway on October 10. The railway will be opened for commercial use at the earliest.
