Workers Garment workers' salary, bonus to be paid before Eid holiday
Dhaka, March 20: March salary and Eid bonus will be paid to garment workers before the holy Eid-ul-Fitr holiday.
State Minister for Labor and Employment Md. Nazrul Islam Chowdhury informed the tripartite advisory council regarding the RMG sector at the secretariat on Wednesday (March 20). Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims in the country, will be celebrated on April 10 or 11.
The state minister said that the owners and labor leaders have discussed in such a cordial atmosphere that we do not think that any kind of labor dissatisfaction or any incident will happen in view of the upcoming Eid. Their problems are solved. We will take effective measures to resolve those which are not resolved.
He said, "Not a single word was spoken loudly in the meeting. We talked in a cordial atmosphere. We have taken the decisions together with the three parties. I hope that the next Eid will be happy and beautiful in the light of these decisions."
When asked when the salary and Eid bonus will be paid, he said, "Salary and bonus will be paid to the workers before the Eid holiday. No specific date has been set. We do not know when the owner of an industry will be able to pay and when he will not be able to pay. We have said that it should be paid before the Eid holidays."
The Minister of State for Labor also said that no worker can be retrenched before Eid. This is our strict instruction.
