GM Quader made Leader of Opposition, Anis becomes Deputy Leader

Dhaka, Jan 29: Jatiya Party (JaPa) chairman Ghulam Mohammad (GM) Quader, which participated as a party in the 12th National Parliament elections and won the second highest seat, has been notified as the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament.

At the same time, another newly elected MP from JaPa, Anisul Islam Mahmud, has been made the opposition deputy leader of the parliament.

On Sunday (January 28), Bangladesh National Parliament Secretariat issued a notification to Human Resources Branch-1. Senior Secretary KM Abdus Salam signed the notification by order of Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury.

According to the notification, Ghulam Mohammad Quader (Rangpur-3), the leader of the party or association formed with the maximum number of members opposed to the government party in the National Parliament, as per rule 2(1)(k) of the Rules of Procedure of the National Parliament, the Leader of the Opposition and the 'Leader and Deputy Leader of the Opposition (Prize) Speaker recognized MP Anisul Islam Mahmud elected from Chittagong-5 as the Deputy Leader of the Opposition under the Act, 2021.

The Jatiya Party won 11 parliamentary seats with the plow symbol in the 12th parliamentary elections held on January 7. Awami League gave concession to JaPa in 26 seats in this election. No boat candidates were given in those seats.
