Dhaka, Nov 3: On the closing day of the last session of the 11th National Parliament, a new record was created on the bill side. Maximum number of seven bills were passed on this day which is a record in the history of Parliament. In this session of only nine working days, 25 bills were passed. Earlier, 18 bills were passed in nine working days of the 24th session. The opposition National Party played an active role from the beginning to the end of the Parliament. They actively participate in every bill passing process.

The journey of the current parliament began on January 30, 2019. The five-year term of this Parliament will be completed on January 29.

According to Article 123 of the Constitution, the next general election must be held within 90 days before the expiry of the term of Parliament. Accordingly, the election countdown has started from November 1. And although there is an obligation to hold the next session within 60 days of the end of a session in normal time, it is not applicable for the election period. As a result, no more sessions of the current parliament will be held unless there is a special need. And if that happens, the session of the current Parliament has ended on Thursday. The session began on October 22.

For three and a half consecutive years, the members of parliament of BNP were critical of various policies and decisions of the government while in parliament. However, the members of parliament of BNP resigned from the parliament on December 11 last year by party decision. After that, opposition party Jatiya Party, Gano Forum and individual members of Parliament gave strong speeches on various issues.

A record 31 members have died in the current parliament. Such a sad incident did not happen in any parliament in the past. A record has been created in the current parliament during by-elections due to the death of members of parliament. Apart from this, as the member of Parliament of Lakshmipur-2 Constituency Shahid Islam Papul was sentenced in the court of Kuwait for being involved in a criminal offense related to moral turpitude abroad, the case of cancellation of the member of parliament also happened for the first time.
