Dhaka, October 8: A legal notice has been sent to the Ministry of Education on behalf of one of the candidates demanding reconsideration of the decision to cancel the HSC and equivalent examinations. The decision was taken to avoid the risk of deadly coronavirus infection.

Apart from the Ministry of Education, the notice was sent to the Secretary of the Department of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, the Director General of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education and the Chairman of 9 Education Boards.

If the demand mentioned in the notice is not accepted within the next 3 days, a writ will be filed in the High Court.

Barrister Shihab Uddin Khan, a lawyer for the Supreme Court, sent the notice on behalf of a higher secondary examinee named Shatabdi Roy by registry post on Thursday (October 8) morning.

The lawyer himself confirmed the matter to Jago News.

Barrister Shihab Uddin Khan, counsel for Shatabdi Roy, said in the notice, the student claimed that if they prepare higher secondary results based on JSC and SSC results, she and many other students would be deprived of good results due to previous GPA even though they were ready to do well in higher secondary.

Roy is a student of Mofazzal-Momena Chakladar Women's College in Savar, and a candidate for the 2020 Higher Secondary Examination.

The notice states that averaging JSC and SSC results will create opportunities for irregular, unsuccessful, unprepared students in multiple subjects, while meritorious, hardworking students with low GPA in JSC or SSC will fail to prove their efforts.

The notice states that determining the results of the next test by averaging the previous results is a form of coercion and illegal, which the responsible authorities cannot legally do.

In a virtual press conference on Wednesday, Education Minister Dipu Moni said that the results of this year's HSC will be determined after evaluating the results of JSC and SSC examinations. The results will be released in December.
