Lightning Strikes Lighting strikes kill 21 across country within nine hours
Dhaka, June 7: At least 21 people were killed in lightning strikes across the country on Sunday.
Five people were killed in Sirajganj, four people were killed Chittagong, two people each in in Feni, Patuakhali and Satkhira and one each in Madaripur, Noakhali, Munshiganj, Manikganj, Barisal and Chuadanga.
The incidents took place on Sunday (June 6) between 9 am and 6 pm. According to reports from different districts, two people were killed in lightning strikes at Mirsarai and Boalkhali in Chittagong. On the same day, two women were killed by lightning while working in the field in Fatikchhari.
Five people, including a schoolboy, were killed in a lightning strike in Sirajganj within an hour. The incident took place between 4pm and 5pm in Bangala and Udhunia areas of Ullapara upazila, Kayempur and Narina union of Shahjadpur upazila and Belkuchi upazila on Sunday.
Two children died in a lightning strike at Sonagazi in Feni district. The incident took place at Alampur village of Bagadana union of the upazila at 11am.
Two people were killed in lightning strikes in Patuakhali Sadar and Mirzaganj upazilas. Abdul Jalil of West Tarabunia village of Majidbaria union of Mirzaganj and Majid Hawlader of Marichbunia village of Sadar upazila were killed in lightning strike on Sunday afternoon.
Two people were killed in a lightning strike at Chaubaria in Bhomra union of Satkhira Sadar upazila and Harinkhola village in Khalishkhali union of Tala upazila on Sunday afternoon. Three more people were injured at the time.
A farmer, identified as Mohammad Abdul Mannan Khokon (36), was killed in a lightning strike while working in a field in Hatia of Noakhali district. The incident took place at 3:30 pm in East Maischara village of Ward 3 of Sonadia Union in the upazila.
Apurba Barman (19), was killed by lightning while playing football in the rain at Sirajdikhan in Munshiganj district. The incident took place at Shekhar Nagar ground of the upazila at 4 pm. Two others were injured at the time.
Md. Shahin Hossain (18), was killed in a lightning strike at Ghior in Manikganj. The incident took place in Balot area of Ghior upazila around 5:30 pm.
Nantu Bali (30) was killed in a lightning strike at Uttar Satla village of Satla union in Uzirpur upazila of Barisal in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, a farmer named Korban Ali (40) was killed in a lightning strike at Ruithanpur village in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga around 5:30 pm on Sunday.
