Miscreants yet to be identified, two months after pelting stones at Metro Rail

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 22 July 2023: Two months have passed since the incident of breaking the glass of metro rail by pelting stones. There is no progress in the investigation of the case so far. Police summoned 20 people from four buildings and interrogated them in two months. No one has admitted the stone throwing. The investigating officers are also not able to give any clear information. However, there are five names on the police shortlist. It is believed that only one of them is responsible.

Police say hundreds of CCTV footages have been analysed. However, the stone thrower could not be identified. Five of the 20 shortlisted suspects have been interrogated multiple times. However, no action can be taken against them in the absence of eyewitnesses and irrefutable evidence.

On April 30, around 11:30 a.m., stones were hurled at the Metrorail in the Sheorapara area of the capital Dhaka. The time and location of the stone pelting was identified by looking at the footage of the CCTV cameras inside the Metrorail. On the same day, Dhaka Metrorail Line-6 Assistant Manager (Line Operation) Md. Samiul Qadir filed a case at Kafrul Police Station. Case number 3.

It is said in the statement that on April 30, around 11:30 AM, it was reported from the station controller Mirpur-10 that before the metro train from Agargaon to Uttara Uttara entered Kazipara station, an unidentified person threw stones from the east side of Kazipara station to damage the metro rail and disturb the safety of passengers. A window glass was broken. The amount of loss is Tk 10 lakh.

The investigating officer of the case and Inspector (Operations) of Kafrul Police Station. Abdul Baten said, the footage of multiple CC cameras on the east side of Kazipara metro station has been collected and analyzed. Half a hundred local suspects have been interrogated. But there was no root-edge. The stone thrower was not found. However, all efforts to identify the accused are continuing.
