Multiple bombs recovered from BNP office in Naya Paltan, 1 killed in clash with police

Dhaka, December 8: A person named Maqbul Hossain (40) was killed in a clash with the police in front of the BNP central office in Dhaka's Naya Paltan.

The clash took place for an hour on Wednesday (December 7) from 2:30 pm. Maqbool was injured. Later, he was rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital. After being taken there, the doctor declared him dead.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested many leaders and activists in connection with the clash between BNP and the police in Naya Paltan. Besides, DMP also said that numerous bombs were recovered from the scene. Deputy Commissioner of DMP Biplab Kumar Sarkar shared this information while talking to reporters in Naya Paltan of the capital on Wednesday (December 7) evening.

He said that the Dhaka Metropolitan Police will not spare anyone who wants to destroy the safety and security of the people. As a part of this, when we saw activities threatening people's life and property in Naya Paltan area. Not only that, the police were attacked and bombs were thrown, we conducted operations. Dispersed the illegal assembly from Naya Paltan. I have arrested many terrorists. Besides, numerous bombs have also been recovered.

In response to a question about how many people have been arrested, he said, the number of arrests cannot be said at the moment, we are in action now. But the number of arrests is numerous.

When asked whether BNP leader Amanullah Aman and Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie have been arrested by the police, he said that they are now in police custody.

Among the injured in the clash, 20 people have been taken to DMC Hospital till the last news. They are currently under treatment in the hospital.

Eyewitnesses said that BNP leaders and activists started gathering in front of the party's central office in Naya Paltan from Wednesday (December 7) morning. In the afternoon, quite a crowd of activists can be seen. Meanwhile, the police tried to remove them.

Meanwhile, the police fired tear gas shells and rubber bullets at the BNP activists. BNP activists also chased the police with sticks. Naya Paltan turned into a battleground with chases and skirmishes on both sides.

Later, BNP leaders and activists marched on the road in front of the party's central office. They also set fire to tires on the road.
