Bangladesh Live News | @banglalivenews | 07 Jan 2024, 04:27 pm

Dhaka, Jan 7: Voting in the 12th National Parliament polls ended at 4 pm on Sunday (Jan 7) amid scattered reports of violence reported from different areas in the country. The counting of votes has started.

Polling started at 8 am on Sunday (January 7) and continued non-stop till 4 pm. However, as there are queues of voters in some polling centres even after the scheduled time, the polling process of the respective centres will be completed after taking their votes.

The Election Commission (EC) said that 27.15 percent voter turnout was reported till 3 pm.

Meanwhile, the EC has cancelled the candidature of Awami League candidate of Chittagong-16 Constituency, Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury, for violating the electoral code of conduct.

Voting in seven polling centres has been cancelled across the country.

Alleging various irregularities, 27 candidates have boycotted the election across the country.

Polling was held at 2,61,912 polling booths in 42,024 voting centres in 299 of the total 300 seats across the country as the EC has postponed the election in Naogaon-2 seat due to the death of independent candidate Aminul Islam.
