Khaleda Zia Parole Notification of Khaleda's release period pending Prime Minister's approval
Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 22 March 2024: Notification to extend BNP leader Khaleda Zia's release will be issued after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's approval. This was stated by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal in response to questions from journalists at the check distribution ceremony for drug addiction treatment centers at the Secretariat on Thursday (March 21).
The Home Minister said, "We always ask the Law Ministry whether there is any legal complication. The Law Minister has sent back the file to us. That means there is no legal complication. Now we will send the file to the Prime Minister. If he agrees, we will make a JIO (notification) and take further action. I will take it. Everything is in process."
When asked whether the sentence will be suspended for six months, the Home Minister said, "The way we have been giving it before, it will continue." When asked about Khaleda Zia's treatment abroad or the government's objection, the minister said, the fact is that Khaleda Zia's case was, she was sentenced in the case. And she has a few more cases to her name.
The Home Minister also said, "We have not done anything beyond the decision of the court. After the decision of the court, our Prime Minister has arranged for her to receive medical treatment at home by suspending the sentence. This is the current situation. Those who are convicted of crimes by the court in our country. Be that as it may, the rules they follow have not been disturbed."
