President of Maldives to attend the golden jubilee celebrations of independence today

Dhaka, March 17: Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will arrive in Dhaka this morning to take part in the celebrations of the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's independence and the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the first world leader. Solih is coming to Bangladesh on a three-day visit. After that, the heads of state of Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and India will come to Dhaka.

President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin said, ‘President Md. Abdul Hamid will receive the President of Maldives at Hazrat Shahjalal (Rah.) International Airport at 8.20 am.

He said Solih would also attend the event at the National Parade Ground in Tejgaon in the afternoon. The President of Bangladesh will attend the event at 4.30 pm.

A 10-day special program to mark the centenary of Bangabandhu's birth and the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's independence will begin tomorrow at the National Parade Ground.

As part of the scheduled visit to Bangladesh, the President of Maldives will pay a courtesy call on the President of Bangladesh at the credential hall of Bangabhaban on Thursday evening.

Ibrahim Mohamad Solih will sign the visitor's book at Bangabhaban. The Press Secretary further said that several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed in the presence of the two Heads of State at this time.

Later, the President of Maldives will attend a dinner and cultural program organized by the President of Bangladesh at the Durbar Hall Ground of Bangabhaban.

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will arrive in Bangladesh on March 19 for a two-day visit. Nepal's President Bidya Devi Bhandari will arrive in Dhaka on March 22 for a two-day visit. According to the schedule, Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering will visit Dhaka from March 24 to March 25.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Dhaka on March 26 and return home on March 27.
