Dhaka, Jan 24: Begum Rowshan Ershad, Jatiya Party (JaPa)'s main patron and former opposition leader in Parliament, has called for maintaining unity in the party.

She made this call in a statement signed by her political secretary Ghulam Masih on Monday.

In the statement, Rowshan said, "It is very sad that the leaders and activists who are motivated by patriotism and associated with Jatiya Party politics, inspired by the ideals of Pallibandhu Hussain Muhammad Ershad, are expelled from the party. It is very sad that the party's dedicated workers and candidates participating in the parliamentary elections were expelled from the party on the flimsy excuse of breaking the party discipline, especially in the context of the 12th National Parliament elections."

Calling upon the released and expelled leaders and activists to return to the party immediately and retain their positions, she said that at the moment when it is necessary to strengthen the party by avoiding disaster in the elections through the united efforts of all levels of leaders and activists, at that moment, the dedicated leaders and activists were thrown out of the party and the party was called Nap Mozaffar, Nap Bhasani and Muslim. Join the transformation of the League. Therefore, I am calling on all concerned, including the party chairman, to take all efforts to unite the party immediately."
