Security beefed up, search ops intensified in Dhaka ahead of Padma Bridge inauguration

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, June 20: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has intensified searches at residential hotels and mess halls in the capital to avoid any kind of sabotage on the occasion of inauguration of the much awaited Padma Bridge, upcoming rath yatra and reverse rath yatra (ulto-rath).

Addressing the police personnel, DMP Commissioner Md. Shafiqul Islam said, "We have to work with intelligence to ensure the safety of the people. On the occasion of inauguration of Padma Bridge on 25th June, VIPs and VVIPs have to ensure smooth movement and safety."

He was speaking at the DMP's monthly crime review meeting for May on Sunday (June 19). He thanked the police as no major incident was reported in DMP's jurisdiction in May.

The DMP commissioner said that all concerned should be vigilant to prevent any kind of untoward incident including extortion at the cattle market. On the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, the places where the cattle market will be set up will have to fulfill their responsibilities with utmost importance.

The DMP Commissioner awarded the best police officers at the monthly crime review meeting in recognition of their good work in maintaining law and order and public safety in Dhaka.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Logistics, Finance and Procurement) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Dr. AFM Masum Rabbani, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime and Operations) Krishna Pad Roy, Additional Commissioner of Police (Intelligence) AKM Hafeez Akter, Additional Commissioner of Police. (Traffic) Md. Munibur Rahman, Additional Commissioner of Police (CTTC) Md. Asaduzzaman, Joint Commissioner of Police and Deputy Commissioner of Police and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
