Sheikh Hasina-Modi to inaugurate Rampal Power Plant

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, August 2: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are expected to jointly inaugurate the Maitri Super Thermal Power Project at Rampal, according to a report by Indian media outlet Hindustan Times published on Sunday.

The report said that the power plant will be inaugurated during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's three-day visit to India in September this year.

The 1320 MW Maitri Super Thermal Power Project, through a 400 KV GIS switchyard and interconnecting transformer, is supplying 400 KV power from Payra Power Project to the 230 KV grid system of Bangladesh. So that the Power Grid Corporation of Bangladesh is able to meet the peak summer demand by providing additional electricity towards Khulna. The 400 KV GIS switchyard and interconnecting transformer at Maitri Plant sub-station was activated on Tuesday. It will gradually turn on the power flow as per the demand.

The Maitri Super Thermal Power Project is being set up by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) through Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Private Limited (BIFPCL). It is a 50:50 joint venture company between India's NTPC Limited and Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB). The power plant is being set up with state-of-the-art ultra super critical technology.
