Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 4 September 2023: About 82 km of new broad gauge railway from Dhaka to Bhanga is now ready to run trains. Trains will go from Dhaka railway station to Bhanga station on a trial basis on Thursday, September 7. Then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate this railway on October 10. However, the length of the railway from Dhaka to Jessore to be constructed in the whole project is 172 km.

Dhaka-Padma Bridge-Bhanga Railway has already been run by the Director General of Bangladesh Railway. Kamrul Ahsan gave permission. Afzal Hossain, Director of Padma Bridge Rail Link Project, has requested the General Manager of Railways East and West through a letter to take all measures to run the train. Some turn outs at Gandaria and Keraniganj stations were left to run trains on this route. They were completed by August 25.

The authorities said that experimental trains will be run by making rakes with new coaches on the new railway. Accordingly, a new US-made locomotive (engine), a power car (WPC), air-conditioned dining car and guard brake (WJDR), air-conditioned sleeper car (WJC), 2 air-conditioned chair cars (WJCC) and a luxurious chair coach. (WEC) Carriage arrangements are being made. Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan, members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railway Ministry and senior railway officials will be the passengers of the test run train.

Meanwhile, after the completion of the stoneless railway line on Padma Bridge, a test train was run from Banga Railway Station to Mawa Railway Station over Padma Bridge on April 4. This time, experimental trains will be run on the new broad gauge railway from Dhaka to Bhanga.

Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said on Sunday that the Prime Minister has given a date for the inauguration of the Padma Bridge Rail Link Project on October 10. Bangladesh Railway is implementing the Padma Bridge Rail Link project divided into three parts. The length of the first part Dhaka-Mawa is about 38 km. A new station is being built in Keraniganj in this part. The length of the second part Mawa-Bhanga part is about 33 km. There are five new station buildings in this section. And the length of the last part of the project from Bhanga to Jessore is about 83 km.
