Two naval ships reach Bhasanchar with UN aid

Dhaka, November 18: Two naval ships carrying aid materials from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) have reached Bhasanchar in Noakhali.

On Wednesday (November 17) at noon, the two ships reached Bhasanchar. Of these, ‘Banauja Tuna’ arrived at 12 noon and ‘Banauja Timi’ arrived around 1:00 pm. Additional Commissioner of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commission (RRRC) Moazzem Hossain said.

He said the two ships had 137.28 metric tons of different types of cargo. After being brought to Bhasanchar, the materials have been kept in the warehouse under the supervision of BDRCS. He added that the 11 items provided by UNHCR include sleeping mats, blankets, plastic tarpaulin, buckets, solar lamps, kitchen sets, female hygiene kits, soap and jute bags.

Earlier, on October 9, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) signed a memorandum of understanding to provide humanitarian assistance ro the Rohingya refugees in Bhasanchar. Following the agreement, UNHCR officially started work by delivering the aid materials this time.
