Metro Rail US Embassy congratulates Bangladesh on Metro Rail inauguration
Dhaka, December 29: The United States Embassy in Dhaka congratulated Bangladesh for inaugurating Metrorail. At the same time, six women drivers of Metrorail were greeted. The US Embassy in Bangladesh issued this greeting on their Facebook page on Wednesday (December 28).
The United States Embassy says, Congratulations to Bangladesh for the opening of the country's first metro rail in Dhaka! We salute the six women drivers of Metrorail, including Maryam Afiza. Besides, the US Embassy also shared a detailed report on Metrorail.
Earlier on Wednesday (December 28) after 11:00 am, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the metro rail by unveiling the name plaque at the playground of C-1 Block of Uttara Sector 15.
Then at 1:54 PM, the Prime Minister started her journey by metro rail from Uttara Uttar station. She reached Agargaon in just 17 minutes. Maryam Afiza was the driver of the metro rail that carried the Prime Minister on this route of about 12 km.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) is responsible for the construction and management of metro rail in Dhaka. The company said, initially, the metro rail will run from Uttara to Agargaon. Basically, the metro rail project is from Uttara to Kamalapur. The duration of this project has been extended till December 31, 2025.
