Dhaka, Dec 2: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said that violence in elections should not be tolerated in any way, it creates fear in the public mind, it must be prevented.

He said, "There is an international dimension in the 12th National Assembly elections. There is no way to minimize it. Because the international community has to show that the election was free and fair. A bit of heat selection will be a bit of a mess. May cause violence. They don't fall into too many conditions. Intolerable violence must be prevented. Violence should not be tolerated in any way, it creates fear in the public mind."

The CEC said these at the opening ceremony of the training programme for judicial magistrates at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Sherebangla Nagar of the capital on Monday. 650 Judicial Magistrates participated in the training programme.

Stating that voting will be held in 43,000 polling stations on the same day, he said that the highest responsibility has been given to the commission. The Election Commission can never conduct elections on its own. That is why the constitution clearly states that the state or government is obliged to provide the manpower required by the commission to conduct the election.

This time, a section of the political leadership has boycotted the election, CEC said, saying that they are peacefully speaking against the election. There is no problem with that; They can create public opinion. But if it is opposed by violent means or if those who exercise the right to vote are obstructed, a crisis is bound to arise. We have to deal with that crisis.

He said, "Our work is not to form the government. Our work is very limited. Organize the election and arrange to elect the members of Parliament. If the government is not elected through elections, there is a chance of forming an undemocratic government."
