Dhaka, Jan 17: Election Commission (EC) Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath said that the voting for the 50 seats reserved for women in the 12th National Parliament elections could be held in the first week of February.

He said this while talking to the media at his office at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital's Agargaon on Tuesday (Jan 16) afternoon.

Debnath said that the issue of voting for reserved women's seats will be finalized through the commission meeting.

He said, "I have got the list of parliamentarians who are voters. Its draft list will be published. If no one objects to the draft list, we will announce it to the 299 MPs as final voters."

He also said that the draft list will be published by the Parliament, if there is no objection to that list, it will be submitted to the Election Commission next week. Unlikely to be held in January, elections to reserved seats for women will be held in February.

This time a large number of independent candidates have been elected, how will the reserved seats be distributed in those places? In response to the question of the journalists, he said that it will be a political decision, the commission has no say in this regard. Political parties will be told how many seats they will get according to the quota.

Regarding the Comilla City election, the EC Secretary said, "We have not received any letter from the local government yet, the commission will take a decision on the matter after receiving the letter."
