15 new rail coaches arrive in Chittagong, will run on Padma Bridge

Dhaka, December 12: The Padma Bridge Rail Link Project is scheduled to be inaugurated in June 2023. From Dhaka, the railway will go to Jessore via Padma Bridge. 15 coaches from China have reached the country for this route, while 85 more coaches will come in phases.

According to Bangladesh Railway, 15 broad gauge coaches have arrived in the country for the first phase of the Padma Bridge railway. On Sunday (December 11), the work of unloading the coaches from the ship was completed at Chittagong port. They are kept at Chittagong Goods Port Yard (CGPY) of Railways at Halishahar in Chittagong city.

The total cost of the project is Tk 39,246 crore 79 lakh. Of this, China's debt is Tk 21,036 crore 69 lakh and government financing is Tk 18,210 crore. There will be no stones on the runway of the Padma Bridge Rail Link. The train can run at a speed of 120 kmph on this state-of-the-art flying railway.
