Dhaka, December 13: Election Commissioner Md. Alamgir said that the Election Commission will not wait 90 days to hold elections in the seats, which are now vacant after the resignation of BNP MPs.

He said this to reporters at his office in Agargaon's election building on Monday (December 12).

Alamgir said that the Election Commission secretariat has received the gazette declaring the seats vacant by the resigned members of the BNP parliament. The next procedure is that we will sit in the meeting. In the meeting, we will decide when the election will be held and the schedule will be announced. When asked about the rule of election within 90 days of the seat becoming vacant, he said, Maximum (maximum) 90 days. We will give the schedule very soon. Since it has to be done within 90 days. The Chief Election Commissioner and another Election Commissioner are outside Dhaka. Will stay on Tuesday. May come next day. Then on Thursday, we may have an informal meeting. I may give the minimum time that is required. We will not wait 90 days. As the next general election is a little over a year away. As such, I will give it before 90 days.

He said that all elections should be held within 90 days. But a minimum time has to be given. Because there is a time to submit nominations, there is a time to select, there is a time to withdraw, there is a time to campaign. It takes 40 to 45 days for this. The date will be announced by this time.

In response to a question whether the resignation of seven members of parliament before the national elections is creating additional pressure, he said, No, we are not feeling any pressure. Our job is to be a referee. We will keep the field ready, the gallery ready. I will keep everything ready, the players will come to play.
