Dhaka, March 28: The construction of the stoneless railway line on the lower deck of the Padma Setu is also in its final stage. About 99 percent of the work has been completed. Only one more sleeper placement is left. The construction of the line will be completed once the seven meter long sleeper is installed. There are also plans to run trial trains on the entire Mawa-Jazira bridge from March 30 when the sleeper is installed.

According to the concerned engineer sources, the rest of the sleeper is being brought to Bangladesh by plane from China. The sleeper arrived at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday (March 27) evening. Soon it will reach the project site.

An engineer of the Padma Bridge Rail Project, who did not want to be named, said the delay was only due to a slipper missed match. March 30 has been fixed as a possible date for the train to run in the presence of the Railway Minister. Six meters of concrete work will be done along with placing the sleeper. It takes 48 hours to harden. Otherwise the train cannot pass over it.

Padma Bridge Rail Link Project Manager-1 Brigadier Saeed Ahmed said on Monday afternoon that the sleeper has reached Bangladesh. It will be installed within 12 hours of reaching the project area. Only then will the concrete work be done. Now waiting for the sleeper. 99 percent of our work is done.

Engineers said that the 6.68 km long Padma Rail Bridge has eight such movement joints. The remaining seven are duly placed. Complications arose with the installation of the steel sleeper of the fifth movement joint in the middle of the bridge. And 11 thousand 140 sleepers have been installed on the main bridge. Except for the eight steel sleepers of the movement joints, all are made of concrete. They are manufactured by a Chinese contractor in a factory set up next to the dilapidated old railway station in Faridpur.
