Hizb-ut-Tahrir still going strong
Despite being banned, the activities of militant Islamic organization Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT) continue unabated. The outfit is carrying out organizational activities in different parts of the country ignoring the crackdown launched by security forces. HuT activists are coming out of their secret hide-outs and engaging themselves in militant activities.

High Court verdict for quick settlement of ‘Enemy Property’ cases
The High Court has issued directives for properly and quickly settling the ‘enemy property’ cases and ordering public officials not to make any attempt in future to include any property in the official gazette as ‘vested property’. The full text of the verdict which was delivered on November 23 last year has been released on April 1. The court observed that the 1962 Pakistan Constitution is not a Constitution at all in the eye of law. So, enactment of the Enemy Property Act under the so-called charter of this Constitution was a ‘misnomer’.

The date March 25, 1971 commemorates the ‘Operation Searchlight’, a planned Military crackdown carried out by the occupying Pakistani forces to thwart the Bangladesh liberation war by taking control of the major cities and eliminating all opposition leaders. Before the beginning of ‘Operation Searchlight’ all foreign journalists and reporters stationed in erstwhile East Pakistan were systematically deported.

Bangladesh making impressive progress
Bangladesh is being tagged globally as the “land of impossible attainments”. The country has already achieved the targets set for hunger and poverty-free society under the UN Millennium Goals (MDGs). The success achieved in poverty reduction has been acclaimed by the international community. Johannes Jutt, former World Bank Country Director for Bangladesh, said “Against all odds, Bangladesh lifted 16 million people out of poverty in the last ten years and also reduced inequality that is a rare and remarkable achievement”.
