National Assembly Polls: EC to hold meeting with Army this evening

Dhaka, Dec 11: The Election Commission (EC) is going to hold a meeting with the Principal Staff Officer of the Army this evening regarding the deployment of troops in the 12th National Assembly elections. It is said that the meeting will be held under the leadership of CEC Kazi Habibul Awal at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon around 7 pm today (Monday, December 11).

EC Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath said on November 20 that about 7,50,000 members of Ansar, Police, RAB, Coast Guard and BGB will work to maintain law and order in the 12th National Assembly elections. However, the commission has not yet decided on the deployment of the army.

He said, 5,16,000 Ansar members, 2,350 Coast Guard; 46,876 BGB personnel; and 1,82,091 police and RAB members will be deployed for elections.

On December 5, Election Commissioner Md. Alamgir said in Mymensingh that the army will be there with other law and order forces in the elections.

The Election Commission announced the schedule earlier on November 15. Voting will be held across the country on January 7.
