Dhaka, June 1: Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader termed the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2023-24 as unrealistic and election-oriented, saying it lacked vision to alleviate the suffering of the people due to the rise in the prices of daily necessities.

Development budget of Tk 2 lakh 63 thousand crore is coming: Planning Minister

Dhaka, June 1: The size of the proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2023-24 is Tk 7 lakh 61 thousand 785 crore. Among these, the annual development program (ADP) or development budget has been estimated at Tk 2 lakh 63 thousand crore. Planning Minister MA Mannan said that social security sector including communication system and rural infrastructure will be given priority in the development budget.

Dr Yunus's case dismissed, ordered to pay Tk 12 crores

Dhaka, May 31: The High Court has dismissed three income tax reference cases filed by Nobel laureate economist Dr Muhammad Yunus challenging the validity of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) notice demanding tax of Tk 15 crore. As a result, Dr. Yunus has to pay Tk 12 crores to NBR.

Dhaka, May 30: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, we are going to give the budget after two days. In 2006, the budget was only of Tk 61,000 crore. Now we have a budget of Tk 6 lakh crore. We are taking the next budget (2023-24) to Tk 7 lakh crore.

Bangladesh to buy 11 million liters of soybean oil from US

Dhaka, May 26: The government will buy 18 million litres of soybean oil for the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB). Of this, 7 million liters of soybean oil will be purchased from domestic companies and 11 million liters from the United States. A total of eight procurement proposals were approved at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement on Wednesday. Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal presided over the meeting while Additional Secretary to the Cabinet Division Sayeed Mahbub Khan briefed reporters virtually.

NEC approves Tk 2.63 lakh crore core ADP for FY24

Dhaka, May 12: The National Economic Council (NEC) has approved a core ADP of Tk 2.63 lakh crore for the next financial year (FY24) with a maximum allocation of Tk 75,945 crore (28.88 percent of the allocation) for the transport and communication sector.
